The Head of Events is responsible for the delivery of innovative and competitive event experiences for Argyle Executive Forum (AEF). You will lead and refine all aspects of content planning and production for the AEF events product and will be responsible for aligning the production effort with key internal partners, putting the customer at the centre of how we design events and ultimately assuring they achieve their revenue and feedback targets.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Develop competitive event products Work with VP of Content to develop a competitive value proposition for AEF event products. Research and understand the competition and take steps to differentiate AEF events from the competitive set. Work with teams to ‘test and learn’ creative ideas and content formats that engage customers at and around an event. Prototype new ideas and innovations with an agile approach. Support the longer-term planning of event design.
Production Management Lead a team of Production Managers and supervisors in creating and managing project plans, that include project timelines and production strategy from start to finish. Assess processes, tools, and procedures to identify opportunities to improve production capability and productivity. Plan and manage department operating budget.
Communication and Promotion Develop relationships with internal partners and team members enabling effective day-to-day operations. Align production methodologies and event programming efforts with editorial partners with the aim of developing innovative, cutting-edge event content. Manage and communicate production schedule to internal partners (marketing, sales, editorial) to match sales cycles.
Customer insight Ensure that all content is based on rigorous understanding of the needs of both delegate and sponsors, shaping the portfolio to cater to as yet unmet and even unknown customer needs. Drive a culture of customer-centricity, and work closely with conference production, sales, marketing, and editorial to understand the interests of delegates and sponsors.
Production strategy and tactics Develop and outline content project execution plans to exceed client expectations (attendees, sponsors). Build relationships with cutting edge executive speaking partners in the field. Develop and refine the production schedule to enable achievement of sales and revenue goals. Drive the continual improvement of speaker quality and stage content to differentiate AEF events from the competition. Evaluate event performance and content quality and initiate action to correct missteps and improve future performance.
Team Management Lead and manage the AEF production team. Be a role model for performance and behaviour. Ensure team members are educated and understand expectations for performance and deliverables. Hold self and other supervisory reports accountable to achieving hiring, retention, risk and performance goals. Develop and implement onboarding and training programs to enable productivity and performance.
- Degree with an emphasis in marketing or communications
- 8+ years producing events for business audiences
- Minimum 3 years’ experience leading and managing a team
- Superb project management and process development/implementation skills
- Excellent verbal/written communication, and networking skills
- Proven experience developing innovative, customer-driven event planning strategies
